Welcome to Dijon and Mabel's Hideyhole

        Dijon and Mabel
        Dijon and Mabel
We are Dijon and Mabel, two houserabbits living in Kent, England. We are a bonded pair, half-brother and sister.

We came to live with our new family on 9th August 2011. Although we look adorable, we are typical bunnies, and there is nothing we like more than to scheme and plot our escape from the confines of our spacious living quarters and play area. One day, in the near future, our scheming will come to fruition...

We hope you enjoy your visit to our hideyhole. We will update it as often as possible, so do return to find out what we've been up to, see the latest photos, and watch our videos.

        More about our home

We are very lucky bunnies, and we wish all pet rabbits were as lucky as us. We have a caring owners who really love us, and do everything they can to meet our needs. This is what they have done...

First, they joined The Rabbit Welfare Association a charity that promotes the well-being of rabbits. If your have a rabbit, then please consider signing up and help give your bunny the best life possible. In fact, our owners joined this charity 13 years ago when it was called The British Houserabbit Association. Anyway, please do think about joining. Not only will you be helping your rabbits, you'll be help all the unfortunate rabbits in Britain that don't have such caring families to care for them.

As the RWA says: A hutch is not enough. We need lots of room to move about, and a hutch is far too small, so our owners bought us a giant cage to live in - 42x31x24 inches - so there is plenty of room for us to lie down, stretch, jump, and eat. In fact, it's an extra large puppy pen with a removable tray, and two doors. It's just right for us. Of course, if you have only one rabbit our cage might be too large, and too small if you have more bunnies living with you.

To ensure we have a suitable place to go to the toilet, we were given a lovely new Hi-Bac litter tray. It's large enough for us both to sit in (though when we're fully grown it will be one at a time!) We are very easily litter trained - it took Mabel just a day to learn, and Dijon took just a little longer to get it right 100% of the time. The Hi-Bac is wonderful for us - easy to jump into, and high sides and back for when we need to back up and do our business! The tray has Bio Catalet litter at the back, and has plenty of hay at the front so we can "graze 'n' go".

We are given the right foods - an abundant supply of fresh hay, plenty of fresh water (refreshed every day, and a smattering of Burgess Excel with breakfast and tea. Breakfast and tea is a selection of fruit and vegetables in very small quantities. Biologically we are the same as wild rabbits, so we need to eat the same as our wild cousins.

We are very social animals - in the wild we live in large communities - so we like to have company. As Winnie the Pooh says: "If I know anything about anything... Rabbit means Company". Our carers spend lots of time with us, at the times when we are most active, which are the mornings and evenings. During these times we are out of our cage, investigating the living room, getting up to mischief, playing, and learning about our carers (who are at the same time learning about us).
